Stop Running Your Business Check to Check with This Simple System

Who in your life managed their money using envelopes? An envelope for food expenses, an envelope for fun, an envelope for rent, an envelope for bills. Was it one of your parents? A family friend? Is it you? It’s okay if it’s you. This is a safe space and admitting to managing your money is not shameful.

It’s a pretty straightforward system, honestly. Money doesn’t leave an envelope except to be used for its intended purpose. No spending the money for your bills on a night out with your friends, accidentally or otherwise.

Once you’ve put the money where it belongs, you’re set. Stick to your system and everything works out.

Financial literacy is not a constant unfortunately, and many people live check to check. They spend what they earn as fast as they earn it. Perhaps unsurprisingly, even people who have developed healthy money management in their personal lives, force their business to live check to check.

You’ve got one business bank account, and the amount of money in that account fluctuates depending on where you’re at in the month. Sometimes business is good and that account has more, sometimes it’s less. 

In the times when there’s “more” in the account, you invest it in the business, or if you’re lucky you get to earn a little something. When it’s “less”, you tighten your belt and you’re a bit more frugal.

Does this sound familiar?
